This Fall, Flower Mound Keeps Sending You Back to the Same Six Blocks

October 1, 2026

When the Town of Flower Mound ran its first Fall Into Flower Mound Festival last October, it had to post a public notice mid-week warning residents about grass stickers. The festival field had gone unmowed by whoever normally maintains it, burs had taken hold, and the parks crew was racing to clear them before opening night. It was the kind of problem that only shows up when a town tries something new in a spot it hasn't used this way before.

A year later, the festival is back, and it is not the only thing happening there. This fall, the River Walk is doing a lot more work than it used to.

If you have lived in Flower Mound for more than a season, you already know the town's rhythm runs through a handful of parks. Heritage Park hosts the movie nights. Twin Coves does the camping and the chalk art. Bakersfield Park gets the fireworks in July. This year, four of the season's biggest public gatherings, spanning early September through Halloween, are landing on the same short stretch of River Walk Drive instead. That is new, and it changes how you should plan your next six weekends here.

Which weekend to mark on the calendar

Start with the festival that prompted last year's grass warning. The Fall Into Flower Mound Festival returns for its second year, a two day event built around a hay maze, a pumpkin photo garden, carnival games in what the town is calling Carnival Row, a craft station, inflatables, and a Harvest Stage lineup sponsored by School of Rock Flower Mound and Meadows Garage Doors. It runs at the River Walk, 4110 River Walk Drive.

Here is the part worth knowing before you make plans. The town's current special events page and its official 2026 vendor application both list the festival for Friday, October 9, from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, October 10, from noon to 10 p.m. Some earlier festival listings, carried over from last year's schedule, still show October 10 and 11. If you land on one of those pages, the Saturday will look a day off. October 9 and 10 is the schedule for this year. Parking will be available in the River Walk garage and the garage north of the Courtyard Marriott, with an overflow grass lot to the north if both fill up, and Flower Mound PD's Citizen's Patrol will be directing traffic.

Four events, one address

The festival is not an isolated addition. It is the fourth public gathering this fall to land on that same stretch of River Walk.

Earlier this month, on September 3, a handful of River Walk restaurants ran a Riverwalk Neighborhood Fall Crawl, a free walk-through event where Vinifera Wine Lounge and Bistro, Lone Star Prime Lounge and Live, Underdog's Sports Bar and Restaurant, and El Guapo's Mexican Cantina each offered food and drink samples to neighbors moving between them. On September 19, the Cross Timbers Rotary Club held its ninth annual Rhythms at the River Walk and Duck Derby at 4040 River Walk Drive, sending more than 30,000 rubber ducks down the water as a fundraiser, alongside live music and food trucks. That same weekend, Twin Coves Park hosted its own Family Camp-Out, a reminder that the town's older anchors are still running in parallel rather than being replaced.

Now comes the Fall Into Flower Mound Festival on October 9 and 10. Then, on October 31, the River Walk hosts the Smoke and Whiskey Fest at 4211 River Walk Drive, closing out the stretch.

Four events, one address, eight weeks. That is not how the town's calendar used to work. It used to spread the year's marquee gatherings across Heritage Park, Twin Coves, Bakersfield Park, and Gerault Park by design, each one built for a different kind of event. This fall, the River Walk is absorbing a disproportionate share of it.

Why there is finally something to walk to

Part of the reason is that the River Walk has more reasons to linger than it used to. Vinifera Wine Lounge and Bistro opened late last year at 4120 River Walk Drive, in a space that had briefly held a short-lived pizzeria, joining a run of existing bars along the water that includes Whiskey and Smoke and Underdogs Burgers and Brews. The restaurant markets itself as the only waterfront patio in Flower Mound, and it has real culinary credentials behind it. Chef Justin Samsill's résumé includes stints at Knife, Town Hearth, The Mitchell, and Smoke, and the menu runs from mussels and shrimp cocktail to steak frites and a smash burger, with entrees priced from $19 to $35.

That matters for the festival math. A hay maze and a pumpkin patch can pull a family out for an afternoon, but a Friday night crowd that lingers into the evening needs somewhere to eat and drink once the kids' activities wind down. Vinifera, Underdogs, and Whiskey and Smoke give the River Walk that option in a way it didn't fully have a year ago, which is likely part of why the town keeps choosing this stretch for its bigger, later-running events rather than a park that closes at dusk.

The older anchors haven't gone anywhere

None of this means Heritage Park or Twin Coves have been sidelined. Heritage Park's Movies in the Park series has run every Friday night in September, sponsored by Whataburger, with the final screening of the season, Wicked: For Good, showing this Friday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. Twin Coves Park still has its Chalk the Park community art competition coming up on October 17, with prizes across six age groups and complimentary chalk sets for the first 75 participants to register. And the town's farmers market continues its regular Sunday run, unrelated to any of the River Walk programming.

If you are trying to plan an actual fall weekend here rather than just scroll past event flyers, this is roughly what the next six weeks look like.

Event Date Location
Movies in the Park: Wicked: For Good Fri, Sept 25 Heritage Park
Fall Into Flower Mound Festival Fri Oct 9 to Sat Oct 10 The River Walk, 4110 River Walk Dr
Chalk the Park Sat, Oct 17 Twin Coves Park
Trunk or Treat (Dallas Car Collective x The Vitamin Shoppe) Sat, Oct 17 The Vitamin Shoppe, Flower Mound
Smoke and Whiskey Fest Sat, Oct 31 The River Walk, 4211 River Walk Dr

The pattern holds even in the smaller entries. October 17 alone splits between a legacy park event and a retail parking lot trunk-or-treat, while the two biggest tentpoles of the season, three weeks apart, both sit on River Walk Drive.

None of this requires you to do anything differently with your Sunday afternoons. It just means that if a friend asks what's happening in Flower Mound this fall, the honest answer for most of it is the same six blocks along the water, and the town's special events page is the best place to confirm dates before you head out.
